What healing power is in vermouth?

The wormwood (Absinthii herba), ie the leaves and flowers of the plant, contain mainly essential oil (including thujone), tannins and bitter substances (such as absinthine). This is why wormwood is a typical bitter ingredient (Amarum aromaticum), which strengthens the stomach, stimulates the bile flow and has flatulent and combat-fighting effects. Its use is therefore medically recognized in:

  • anorexia
  • Dyspeptic complaints, so upper abdominal discomfort such as bloating, mild gastrointestinal spasms, heartburn, bloating, nausea

Folk medicine uses wormwood for other ailments and diseases such as gastritis, anemia, irregular or too weak menstruation and worm infestations.

Vermouth contains the neurotoxin thujone, which causes prolonged and / or high-dose ingestion, among other things epilepsy-like convulsions.

How is the vermouth applied?

You can make a tea from the dried wormwood herb by pouring 1 to 1.5 grams of chopped cabbage with about 150 milliliters of boiling water. Cover the infusion for 10 to 15 minutes, then peel off the plant parts. You can drink a freshly prepared cup of warm vermouth tea three times a day - with an appetite deficit half an hour before meals, for digestive problems after eating. The daily dose is three grams of wormwood herb.

There is also a wormwood tincture. Of this, 10 to a maximum of 20 drops may be taken three times daily with plenty of water. The daily dose of 60 drops must not be exceeded.
