Throat and trunk muscles are in use almost 24 hours a day. Thanks to various muscles in the cervical region, not only can we keep our heads upright and move in different directions. The neck muscles also help us with swallowing and speaking. A strong core musculature - consisting of back and abdominal muscles - stabilizes the upper body, relieves the spine and the intervertebral discs and gives us the necessary mobility when walking, running, bending over, dancing and jumping.

In the front neck area, two muscle groups attach to the top and bottom of the hyoid bone, stabilizing it. Despite its name, the little bone does not belong to the skull, but to the trunk skeleton and serves as a point of attachment for various tongue, neck and larynx muscles. For example, when we swallow or speak, one of these muscles raises the hyoid bone and larynx and also pulls down the lower jaw.

Various other neck muscles make sure that we keep the kilogram head in balance and, for example, shake it back and forth.

abdominal muscles

In the abdominal area (abdomen), three superimposed muscle layers whose fibers run in different directions protect the organs inside - especially when the muscles are well trained and taut. If the subcutaneous fatty layer is only thinly formed, especially men can convert these muscle packages into a "six-pack".

But there are other abdominal muscles. All together help us, for example, to bend the upper body forward or to the side. They support deep inhalation and exhalation by pulling the abdominal wall outwards or inwards. And finally, the abdominal muscles give us the power to press when needed - for example, during bowel movements or during birth.

back muscles

The back muscles are very complex. About 150 muscles start in different places, run in different directions and overlap in many places. A distinction is made between three groups of back muscles: deep, middle-class and surface muscles.

The deep back muscles are short and strong and connect the individual vertebrae with each other. They provide support for our spine, allow upright posture and make the back pliable. About 80 percent of all back pain can be attributed to neglected deep muscles.

The Middle class muscles run from the pelvis over the vertebral bodies to the head and are the link between the spine and rib cage. With their help, we can lean forward and straighten up again.

Just below the skin is the surface muscles, It connects the vertebral bodies with the shoulders and hips and adjusts the movements of the arms, legs and spine.
